Chenille plush waffle and plush stripe styles are pre-shrunk and do not need washing Minky fabrics do NOT need to be washed.

* lay pieces out as you want them to appear in your quilt.

* stitch squares together one row at a time, right sides together. A serger is preferred to make smaller seam width. If using a regular machine make seam allowances .25 inch and zig zag edges after straight stitching for seam strength.

* stitch rows together, right sides together, being careful to match seams of squares. If working with the quilt that contains a center 18 inch craft piece, first make sure to square the 18 inch piece to an exact square before sewing. Next, sew 2 nine inch pieces together gauging seam width so that once sewn together the pieces match the height of the 18 inch square.  Sew an additional two  9 inch pieces together for right side and attach to 18" square again, making sure to adjust seam to match the height of the 18" piece. Now, take the 4 pieces that appear above the 18"piece and lay them out above the square - again take time to gauge seam width so that once sewn together the pieces match the width of the 18 inch square with the additional 18 inches that have now been attached on each side . Determine correct seam width for each, and sew these 4 9 inch pieces together, and then take this strip of 4 pieces and attach above the 18 inch piece. Do the same for below the craft piece.

* cut backing fabric to measure size of finished quilt plus seam allowance (this measurement will vary depending on your seam allowances as you sew pieces together - you may want to wait until your top has been sewn together before cutting your backing piece. If using flannel or woven DO pre-shrink your backing fabric).

* if there is a 3" finished ruffle, cut strips of fabric 6-1/2 x width of woven ruffle fabric.

* join woven ruffle strips together using 1/8" - 1/4" seam allowance.

* when all pieces are together, stitch the first and last strip together forming a large circle.

* fold circle in half (wrong sides together) so that raw edges are even.

* use your favorite method, gather this into a ruffle to fit outer edges of your quilt.

* mark the center of each edge of quilt so that it is evenly divided into four equal quarters. do not use corners when marking. if you mark corners, it will not be in four equal parts.

* mark the ruffle into four equal quarters.

* it is best to baste the ruffle onto the quilt backing, making sure it all fits properly.

* with rights sides together, stitch patchwork side of quilt to backing, leaving a large enough opening to turn right side out.

* turn quilt right side out thru the opening.

* hand or machine stitch opening to close it securely.

* topstitch 1/4" in from edge of quilt. if it has a ruffle, topstitch 1/4" in from where the ruffle and quilt are attached.

helpful hints:

finished quilt dimensions are calculated using 1/4" seam allowances throughout.

when joining wovens to chenille, it is sometimes easier to stitch with the woven fabric on top whenever possible.
